Dos hermanos trabajan como guardagujas del ferrocarril en una zona rural de Rusia. Su inactividad da vida a la locura y a los sueños, que alimentan su imaginación para luchar contra la melancolía. El amor, el odio y la soledad se entremezclan sin que ninguna de estas emociones supere a las otras dos.

Deep in the Russian countryside two brothers work as line guards for the railroad. Their idleness gives life to folly and dreams, feeding their imagination to fight off their melancholy. Love, hate and solitude become intermingled, without one of these emotions ever surpassing the other two.
