“She, a Chinese” cuenta la historia de Mei, una joven china que decide abandonar su monótona vida en un pueblo por el ajetreo de Chongqing, la ciudad más cercana. Pero nada sale como esperaba. Después de ser despedida de la fábrica donde trabaja, se enamora de Spikey, un asesino a sueldo cuyo pasado no tarda en pasarle factura. Sin pensárselo dos veces, se marcha a Londres, donde se casa con un hombre mayor, el Sr. Hunt.
“She a Chinese” tells the story of Mei, a young Chinese girl who decides to leave her monotonous life in a small town for the hustle and bustle of Chongqing, the nearest city. But nothing turns out as she expected. After being fired from the factory where she works, she falls in love with Spikey, a contract killer whose past soon catches up with him. Without a second thought, she goes off to London, where she marries an older man, Mr. Hunt.
DIRECCIÓN: Xiaolu Guo
Una afamada novelista, poeta y cineasta que vive en Inglaterra, Xiaolu Guo nació en 1973 en un pueblo del sur de China. Estudió en la Beijing Film Academy y recibió una beca para continuar en la National Film and Television School in England. Su primera novela, “Village of Stone” (2003), ganó el International. Literature Prize in Dublin. En el 2003 dirigió “Far and Near”, un corto que ganó London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts Beck’s Future Prize. Sus documentales y largos han tenido éxito en festivales internacionales. “Jin tian de yu zen me yang?” (“How is your Fish Today”, 2006) ganó el premio en el Rotterdam Film Festival and at Fribourg y fue seleccionada para la competición de Sundance Festival. Este año está presentando un proyecto en Locarno’s Open Doors.

A renowned novelist, poet and filmmaker living in England, Xiaolu Guo was born in 1973 in a village in southern China. She studied at the Beijing Film Academy and then received a grant to study at the National Film and Television School in England. Her first novel, “Village of Stone” (2003), won the International Literature Prize in Dublin. In 2003 she directed Far and Near, a short film that won London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts Beck’s Future Prize. Her documentaries and feature films have been very successful at international festivals. “Jin tian de yu zen me yang?” (“How is your Fish Today”, 2006) won an award at the Rotterdam Film Festival and at Fribourg and was selected for competition at the Sundance Festival. This year she is presenting a project at Locarno’s Open Doors.
