Basada en una novela del novelista checo Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997). La subida y caída burlescas de un camarero aprendiz en Praga durante la primera parte del siglo pasado. La avaricia dicta sus objetivos en la vida y la lujuria lo encuentra en los brazos de una variedad de bellísimas mujeres. Pronto abandona su primer trabajo en un hotel en un pequeño pueblo, por un resort de lujo, y finalmente por el elegante Hotel Pariz en Praga. Inconsciente a cambios políticos, se convierte en millonario, y compra el hotel de lujo donde había trabajado. La ironía es deliciosa cuando los dos mensajeros comunistas llaman a su puerta.
Based on a novel by Czech novelist Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997). The burlesque rise and fall of an apprentice waiter in Prague during the first half of the last century. Greed dictates his goals in life and lust finds him in the arms of a variety of beautiful women. He works his way from a hotel in a small village, to an expensive spa resort, to the grand Hotel Pariz in Prague. Oblivious to political changes, he eventually becomes a millionaire, and buys the resort hotel he once worked at. The irony is delicious when two communist messengers come knocking at his door.

Nacido en Praga en 1938. Hizo su debut como director de largometrajes en 1966 con Ostre Sledované Vlaky, una adaptación de Hrabal que recibió un Oscar. Después de que otra adaptación de Hrabal, Skrivánci Na Niti, fuera prohibida en 1969 se traslado al teatro (la película recibió el Oso de Oro en 1990). Durante este tiempo trabajo no solo en el teatro en la CSSR pero también el la televisión sueca. Volvió a rodar películas a mitad de los años setenta. En los años noventa trabajo como director de teatro en sitios como Praga y por toda Europa, incluyendo la Comédie Française.
Born in Prague in 1938. He made his debut as a feature film director in 1966 with the Oscar-winning Hrabal adaptation Ostre Sledované Vlaky. He moved into theatre in 1969 after another Hrabal adaptation, Skrivánci Na Niti was banned (the film later won the Golden Bear in 1990). During this time he worked for the stage in the CSSR and abroad as well as for Swedish television. He turned to filmmaking in the mid-1970s. He spent the 1990s working as a theatre director at venues in Prague and all over Europe, including the Comédie Française.
