Hace 300 años los esclavos negros fugitivos de Cartagena se fortificaron en palenques, en medio de las ciénagas y la selva que rodeban la ciudad. En ese aislamiento conservaron hasta este siglo la costumbre de acompañar con tambor, canto y baile a los muertos en su viaje al país de sus antepasados.

300 years ago the black slaves fugitives from Cartagena fortified in stockades, in the middle of the marshes and the jungle which surrounded the city. In that isolation they preserved till this century the tradition of accompanying with drums, singing and dancing the death people in their travel to the land of their ancestors.
