En 2006 en la Escuela de Arte de Kabul se celebró un curso de cine, “Kabul, mi ciudad”. A los alumnos se les prestaron cámaras y la ayuda profesional de un joven director polaco, Jacek Szaranski. Y nada más. Ellos mismos eligieron las ideas que querían plasmar en sus películas y de qué manera mostrarían Kabul. Ellos apuntaron sus cámaras a lo que les rodeaba, los niños del vecindario, las omnipresentes cometas y ellos mismos.
In 2006 in the Art School in Kabul a film course “Kabul – My City” was held. Students were given cameras and professional help from a young polish director Jacek Szaranski. And no more than that. They themselves came up with the ideas what they want their films to be about, and in what way they would show Kabul. They trained their lenses on their closest surrounding – neighbour’s children, ubiquitous kites and themselves.

Nacida en 1969 en Katowice, Polonia. Estudió Literatura en la universidad local, y después dirección (de cine y teatro) durante tres años. Pronto demostró su interés por los problemas sociales, con documentales sobre prisioneros ciegos (The Cell with a View, 1996) y jóvenes con anorexia (Dreams and Death, 1998). En 2002 realizó el corto documental Lessons of Hope, en la reapertura de la Escuela de Arte de Kabul. Esto también le llevó a su nueva película: Latawce. Además de cineasta, es también autora y directora de teatro.
Born in 1969 in Katowice, she studied literature at the local university, then directing (film and theatre) for three years. She soon demonstrated her interest in social problems, with documentaries about blind prisoners (The Cell with a View, 1996) and young anorexia sufferers (Dreams and Death, 1998). In 2002 she made the documentary short Lessons of Hope, on the re-opening of the Kabul Art School. This also led to the subject of her new film: Latawce. Alongside her filmmaking, she is also a playwright and a theatre director.
