Giuseppe se retira después de muchos años trabajando en Italia y Alemania. Regresa a casa de su madre en Istria. Se siente solo y su madre le aconseja que se case. Le da el uniforme militar de su padre (antiguo oficial de la armada en el ejército austro-húngaro). Giussepe sigue la carretera buscando una esposa en el “Este en transición”, esperando que, como italiano, el reciban con los brazos abiertos.

Giuseppe retired after years of working in Italy and Germany. He returns to his mother’s place, in Istria. He is lonely, and mother advises him to get married. She gives him his father’s military uniform (former navy officer in Austro-Hungarian army). Giuseppe is on the road, searching for a wife in the «East in transition», hoping that as an Italian, he will be given warm welcome.
