A través de una serie de encuentros, relaciones e incluso muertes, las frágiles vidas de seis personas se cruzan durante sus viajes emocionales hacia el perdón y la reconciliación en Alemania y Turquía. Nejat no mira con buenos ojos la relación que su padre Ali mantiene con la prostituta Yeter. Pero todo cambia cuando descubre que ella manda dinero a Turquía para pagar los estudios universitarios de su hija. La inesperada muerte de Yeter distancia al hijo y al padre. Nejat decide irse a Estambul a buscar a Ayten, la hija de Yeter. Pero Ayten, una activista política que huye de la policía turca, se ha ido a Alemania. Allí conoce a Lotte, que le ofrece su casa, algo que no gusta a su madre Susanne, una mujer bastante conservadora. La policía detiene a Ayten. Su petición de asilo político es denegada y la deportan a Turquía donde es encarcelada. Lotte se traslada a Turquía en un intento desesperado por liberar a Ayten.
Through a series of encounters, relations and even death, the fragile lives of six people will cross during their journey of forgiveness and reconciliation in Germany and Turkey. Nejat disapproves of the relationship his father Ali mantains with Yeter, a prostitute. However, he changes his mind when he learns that she sends money back to Turkey to pay for her daughter’s university studies. Yeter’s sudden death distances father and son. Netjat travels to Istambul in search of Yeter’s daughter, Ayten. Political activist Ayten has fled the Turkish police and is already in Germany. There she meets Lotte, who offers her a place to stay, despite disapproval from her conservative mother Susanne. Ayten is arrested by the police and her petition for political asylum is denied. She is deported and imprisoned in Turkey. Lotte travels to Turkey in a desperate attempt to free Ayten.

Fatih Akin nació en 1973 en Hamburgo de padres turcos. Estudió Ciencias Audiovisuales en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Hamburgo en 1994. En 1995 escribió y dirigió su primer corto, Sensin – Du Bist Es!, que ganó el Premio del Público en el Festival Internacional de Cortometrajes de Hamburgo. Su segundo cortometraje, Getuerkt (1996), recibió varios premios nacionales e internacionales. Su primer largometraje, Kurz Und Schmerzlos (1998), gano el Leopardo de Bronce en Locarno en 1998. Su filmografía esta compuesta por las películas Im Juli (2000), Wir Haben Vergessen Zurueckzukehren (2001), Solino (2002), Gegen Die Wand (2003), y Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul (2005).
Fatih Akin was born in 1973 in Hamburg of Turkish parentage. He began studying Visual Communications at Hamburg’s College of Fine Arts in 1994. His collaboration with Wueste Film also dates from this time. In 1995, he wrote and directed his first short feature, Sensin – Du Bist Es!, which received the Audience Award at the Hamburg International Short Film Festival. His second short film, Getuerkt (1996), received several national and international festival prizes. His first full length feature film, Kurz Und Schmerzlos (1998) won the Bronze Leopard at Locarno in 1998. His other films include: Im Juli (2000), Wir Haben Vergessen Zurueckzukehren (2001), Solino (2002), Gegen Die Wand (2003), and Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul (2005).
