LA NORIA

DIRECCIÓN: Carlos Baena.

Nacido en las Islas Canarias y criado en Madrid, Carlos Baena conectó con el mundo del cine muy pronto, haciendo vídeos de skateboarding. En 1994 se mudó a Estados Unidos para estudiar arte y animación. Una vez terminada la universidad, Carlos trabajó en anuncios para Will Vinton Studios (ahora conocida como Laika), Click 3X y Wild Brain. Luego comenzó en el mundo de los largometrajes en George Luca’s Industrial Light and Magic donde trabajó en las franquicias de Jurasssic Park y Star Wars. Más tarde, se unió a Pixar Animation Studios donde ha trabajado, entre otras, en las películas ganadoras del Oscar Buscando a Nemo, Los increíbles, Ratatouille, Wall-E y Toy Story 3. En 2007, fue nominado al Premio Annie al Mejor Personaje de Animación por su trabajo en Cars. Es co-fundador de la escuela online Animation Mentor y de Artella Pipeline, una plataforma para ayudar a los directores a crear trabajos de animación. Desde Anki, un estudio de robótica en San Francisco, creó un grupo de animadores, directores técnicos y programadores para desarrollar la personalidad y el carácter del primer robot con Inteligencia Artificial llamado ‘Cozmo’. En 2010 y 2015 vuelve al rodaje de imagenes reales con los cortometrajes Play by Play, y MarketSt, premiados en festivales de todo el mundo. Actualmente vive en Los Angeles, donde está terminando su corto de animación La Noria.

Born in the Canary Islands and raised in Madrid, Carlos Baena connected with the world of cinema very early, making skateboarding videos. In 1994 he moved to the United States to study art and animation. After college, Carlos worked on commercials for Will Vinton Studios (now known as Laika), Click 3X and Wild Brain. He then began in the world of feature films at George Luca’s Industrial Light and Magic where he worked in the franchises of Jurassic Park and Star Wars. Later, he joined Pixar Animation Studios where he has worked, among others, in the Oscar-winning films Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E and Toy Story 3. In 2007, he was nominated for the Annie Award for Best Character of Animation for his work in Cars. He co-founded the online school Animation Mentor and Artella Pipeline, a platform to help directors create animation work. From Anki, a robotics studio in San Francisco, brought together a group of animators, technical directors and programmers to develop the personality and character of the first robot with Artificial Intelligence called ‘Cozmo’. In 2010 and 2015 he returns to the real image shooting with the short films Play by Play, and MarketSt, awarded at festivals around the world. He currently lives in Los Angeles, where he is finishing his animated short film La Noria.
