HIMALAYA, L’ENFANCE D’UN CHEF

En la región de Dolpo en el noroeste de Nepal, Tinle, el anciano más prominente de la aldea, recibe la noticia de que su hijo mayor, el jefe del pueblo, ha fallecido en un accidente. La aldea se prepara para la anual caravana de yaks, que llevan la sal (único producto de valor que tienen) para intercambiarla por granos en los pueblos de las llanuras. El jefe es quien guía tradicionalmente la caravana y deben elegir al sucesor.

In the remote region of Dolpo in the North East of Nepal, Tinle, the most prominent elderly man of the village receives the news of the death of his eldest son, the village chief, in an accident. The village is preparing to the annual caravan of yaks which carries salt (the only valuable thing they have) to exchange it for grain in the villages of the plains. As a tradition, the chief is who leads the caravan and so they must elect a successor.
