Tin Tan, caritativo maquinista de ferrocarril y padre del niño Pepito, se empeña en proteger a la joven Carmelita, que vive en su vecindad, para que no dé un mal paso como el que perdió a una prima de él. Carmelita, sin trabajo, rechaza las atenciones de Tin Tan, que es en realidad el jefe de los rateros Borolas, El Norteño, El Peralvillo y El Sapo, con quienes se reúne en un billar y a quienes atemoriza diciendo que fue gángster en Chicago.

Tin Tan, generous engine driver and father of a boy, Pepito, insists on protecting the young Carmelita, who lives in his neighbourhood, to stop her to make a false move as that which was his cousin’s downfall. Carmeliga, who is unemployed, rejects Tin Tan attentions, who actually is the chief of the petty thieves Borolas, El Norteño, El Peralvillo and El Sapo, with whom he meets in a billiard bar and to whom he frightens telling them he was a gangster in Chicago.
