Selma, inmigrante checa y madre soltera, trabaja en una fábrica situada en un pueblo de los Estados Unidos. Su única salvación es su pasión por la música, especialmente las canciones y números de baile basados en los musicales clásicos de Hollywood. Selma esconde un triste secreto: está perdiendo la vista y su hijo padecerá el mismo mal si ella no puede conseguir el suficiente dinero para asegurarle una operación.
Selma, a Czech immigrant and single mother, works at a factory placed in a little village in the United States. His only salvation is her passion for music, especially for the songs and dances based on Hollywood classic musicals. Selma hides a sad secret: she is losing her sight and her son will suffer the same disease if she is not able to collect money enough to guarantee him an operation

Nacido en Copenhague en 1956 y familiarizado con el medio cinematográfico desde los trece años, a los veinte ingresó en Den Danske Filmsköle, donde realizó varios cortometrajes. Hasta el momento ha dirigido una docena de largometrajes, de los cuales Rompiendo las olas, Los idiotas y Bailando en la Oscuridad han sido aclamadas y premiadas en numerosos festivales. Forma parte del grupo cinematográfico “Dogma”. Entre su filmografía podemos destacar Europa (1991), Breaking the Waves (1996), Idioterne (1998), Dancer in the Dark (2000), Dogville (2003), Manderlay (2005) y Direktoren for det hele (2006). Acaba de estrenar en Cannes su última película Antichrist (2009).
Born in Copenhagen in 1956 and familiar with film media since he was thirteen, at twenty he entered the Danske Filmsköle, where he made several short films. Until now he had directed a dozen films, among which Breaking the waves, Idioterne and Dancer in the Dark have been acclaimed and awarded in many festivals. He is a member of the cinematographic group “Dogma”. Among his films we could mention Europa (1991); Breaking the Waves (1996); Idioterne (1998); Dancer in the Dark (2000). Dogville (2003), Manderlay (2005) and Direktoren for det hele (2006). He has just premiered in Cannes his latest film Antichrist (2009).
