San Petersburgo, 1965. En 1983 se graduó en la Escuela de Arte y en 1992 en el Instituto Superior de Arte y Diseño. Desde 1985 hasta 1990 trabajó como animador. En 1988, realizó su primer cortometraje, The round-about. En 1994 se graduó en los Cursos Superiores de Guionistas y Directores de Moscú, con Fjodor Khitruk. Sus películas ganaron unos doscientos premios en diferentes festivales, como el Grand-prix Annecy 1995 y Annecy 2016, el Grand-prix Annecy 1997, premio especial del jurado, del público y a la película más divertida en Annecy 1999, el Golden Spike en Valladolid, el Animated Eye Award en Aspen 2000, 2004 y 2008; Mejor animación en Tampere, St.- Petersburgo, Lisboa, Cracovia y Potsdam; premio del público, premio de la prensa y premio Fnac en Clermont-Ferrand 2000, Gran Premio en Roma, Nueva York, Taipei y Moscú entre muchos otros. Cuenta con dos nominaciones al Oscar por Lavatory-Lovestory (2009) y We can’t live without cosmos (2016). Es miembro de la Academia Francesa de Cine y de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas.

His films won over two hundred awards at different festivals, such as the Grand-prix Annecy 1995 and Annecy 2016, the Grand-prix Annecy 1997, a special jury, audience award, and the funniest film at Annecy 1999, the Golden Spike in Valladolid, the Animated Eye Award in Aspen 2000, 2004 and 2008; Best Animation in Tampere, St.-Petersburg, Lisbon, Krakow and Potsdam; audience award, press award and Fnac award at Clermont-Ferrand 2000, Grand Prix in Rome, New York, Taipei and Moscow among many others. He has two Oscar nominations for Lavatory-Lovestory (2009) and We Can’t Live Without Cosmos (2016). He is a member of the French Academy of Cinema and the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.
