O PROCESO DO REI

En aquellos tiempos Portugal ofrecía un extraño espectáculo al resto de Europa: Don Alfonso, que reinaba en Portugal, era un retasado mental. Su esposa maquina un complot para destronar a su marido. La estupidez del rey justifica su audacia. Marie Françoise acusa a su marido de impotente, aunque éste siempre ha demostrado una gran virilidad. Gracias a su astucia es capaz de reconquistar todo lo que Alfonso había perdido. Pronto logra encarcelar a su marido ( noviembre de 1667) y recibe la bula del Papa, que confirma su virginidad y bendice su matrimonio con su cuñado, Don Pedro.

At the time Portugal presented a strange spectacle to the rest of Europe: D. Alfonso was in possesion of the throne and was an insane imbecil. His wife dared hatch a plot to out her husband from the throne. The king’s stupidity justified the queen’s bravado. Despite being master of unusual strength and having slept with his wife for a long time, she accused him of being impotent. Marie Françoise had acquired through artfulness what Alfonso had lost in anger in the kingdom. She had him imprisoned (november 1667) and quickly obtained a Papal bull from Rome to confirm her virginity and bless her marriage to her brother-in-law Pedro.
